Covering
Arbury, Ermine, Weston & Sandon Wards.
On the 4th July at Wallington burglars entered a house by using a garden spade to force a window, they made an untidy search and stole property.
On the 6th at Weston burglars entered a house by using a gas bottle to break a window, they made an untidy search and stole property which included a lap top computer.
At the end of last month at Luton Crown Court two local men to Ashwell were convicted of Affray. The offence happened in one of the local pubs last year and appeared to stem from an argument with another local person who was almost half their age.
Motor vehicles appear to have been on the menu for thieves latterly. In the early hours of Thursday 7th July (approx. 3am) we had four offences reported in Ashwell, three were thefts from vehicles and one was a theft of a vehicle, this was later found not far away from where it had been taken. Please lock up your car set the alarm (if you have one) and never leave anything in them that may tempt a thief.
ACROSS the County there have been increased reports of pickpockets operating in town centres and supermarkets, ‘dipping’ for purses.
Police are taking positive action to deter pickpockets and to arrest anyone who commits this type of theft but there are measures that shoppers can take themselves to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.
Police are issuing the
following advice:
Be alert when
you are out and about. Be aware of who is around you, especially in a crowd and
move away if you feel a stranger is too close to you.
Keep purses
and wallets as secure as you can - women should keep bags closed up and men
should keep their valuables in their front pockets, not in trouser back
pockets.
When carrying
a bag try to make sure that you keep it to your front so you can see it at all
times. Preferably use a bag with a zip but if you don’t have one, put your purse and other valuables at the bottom of the
bag and not near the top where they could be seen or easily snatched.
Remember to be as careful with a mobile phone as you are with your purse or wallet

In recent weeks
there have been a number of village church burglaries
reported to
the Police in Cambridgeshire. If you happen to be out and about and note
something out
of place, jot down the registration number, make of car,
colour
time/date / place. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN A COPROMISING POSITION.
A domestic CCTV system as proved its worth recently in a village that borders our area, a chap was seen to break into the house containing the CCTV and steal a number of articles. He then drove off in his car and as he had parked it on the drive we also had the index number. He was later arrested for the Burglary and also for driving whilst disqualified.
A suspicious
incident took place at a farm in Ickleford yesterday Tuesday 12th July. Two males with an unidentified accent
claimed that they had been told they could take some scrap metal from the
farmyard. They were in a white van
registration number P230 RNF of which there is no trace on the Police National
Computer.
A couple living in Dane End, narrowly missed having their pet dog taken from their garden yesterday, by 2 young men aged between 18/25. The couple were able to snatch the animal back and to give the police a description and they also took the registration number of the car the men were using. Apparently, they had tried the same "kidnap" in Saccombe, earlier in the day. Please be aware that they may be targeting this area.
I know this is an unusual request but this
cat has been stolen from Hertford Heath since Friday 06 May and the owner is
absolutely devastated. The cat is a lilac (i.e. grey) Siamese/ Oriental female
and she is spayed and very friendly. She was seen being taken out of her garden
by 2 young males and put into a blue Ford Escort or similar car. There have
been several reports in the press and lots of adverts, but sadly no trace so
far! The owner is offering a very large reward for any information leading to
her safe return (no questions asked) and you can contact her direct on 01992
535107 or me at Hertford Stn on 01992 533008
FOLLOWING THE DISASTER
IN LONDON
East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of
Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign
with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston.
The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone
address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to
be contacted "In Case of Emergency".
In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to
quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so
simple that everyone can do it. Please do.
Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book; it won't
take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could
save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.
For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

HERTFORDSHIRE POLICE OFFICER UP FOR TOP AWARD
BRAVE Detective Constable Mark Clawson has been nominated for the prestigious
award of Britain’s bravest police officer.
Mark, who is based at the Area Crime Unit in Stevenage, will be attending a
star-studded award ceremony where he will be praised for his courage and
determination.
The 10th annual Police Bravery Awards will be held at The Dorchester Hotel on
Thursday, 14 July. The Home Secretary, Charles Clark will be among the guests,
as well as a host of celebrities. A reception at Downing Street, hosted by the
Prime Minister, will follow on the morning after. Mark will be among 50 of the
bravest officers in England and Wales.
All 43 forces are invited to select their top candidate(s) who are nominated by
fellow officers from their local police federation for courageously going above
and beyond the call of duty.
On April 9, 2003 Mark was taking part in an operation which focused on the
supply of crack cocaine and heroin in the Watford area. Intelligence had led
the officers to believe that a blue Rover car was being used to supply the
drugs.
While on patrol, Mark and his colleagues recognised the car and approached the
three men inside. He noticed that there was a clingfilm package containing
white rocks under the glass sunroof. When he identified himself as a police
officer, the men tried to make off in the car.
Mark managed to keep hold of the car door and the front seat passenger. He was
dragged at high speed with his legs hanging out of the vehicle.
He was then dragged backwards, as the driver reversed at speed up a one way
street before turning the car 180 degrees before smashing it through a shop
window, covering Mark in broken glass.
Despite his horrific ordeal, he still managed to detain the front seat
passenger when the car eventually stopped. His colleagues and another witness
managed to detain the other suspects.
When the vehicle was searched, forty wraps of heroin and cocaine were found
along with knuckle-dusters, extendable batons and handcuffs.
The three offenders were charged and convicted of possession with intent to
supply cocaine and heroin and with the possession of offensive weapons. They
were sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison.
The driver of the vehicle was also convicted of assault with intent to resist
arrest.
Below is a list of the Parish Councils in my area, the date indicated is last time we attended a parish or village meeting.
