Current  Issues and PCSO activities/results

·        The Hitchin team is currently targeting underage youths that consume alcohol both in the town centre and in outlying areas.

·        As a result of a Police radio attention message two Hitchin PCSOs observed a vehicle fitting a description given following a distraction burglary. Police attended to support and two persons were arrested for burglary  (29/3/06)

·        Under Section 60, two youths from Luton at a Hitchin car park were searched. They were arrested for possessing a large carving knife with a 10” blade. One youth has been charged, it should be noted that he was on bail to Luton magistrates for a previous robbery offence that occurred in Luton.

·        A “No cold calling” scheme for a Hitchin area is being progressed by the Crime Prevention Officer and PC Williams.

·        Letchworth town centre Breakfast meeting attended and presentation given re Shop Watch

·        Purse dipping, crime prevention work and leaflets, work with retailers around insecurities

·         Letchworth: 4 separate shoplifters dealt with. Positive action taken with all, including 1 reprimand, 1 Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) and 2 reported for summons.

·        Crime prevention surveys and re-assurance by Baldock PCSO

·        Partnership meetings: Shop Watch/ Pub Watch/ Factory Watch and work with partners NHDC, NHH’s to address local issues

·        High visibility patrols around Royston rural by PCSO. Visits to schools educating school children aged 5 – 9 years on road safety and stranger danger. Chris worked along side Barley first school with their ‘healthy living week’ by assisting the school children with a walk around the village and passing on tips about keeping safe on the roads.

·        Whilst on patrol in Kelshall, PCSO caught some possible hare coursers parked up in The Street, Kelshall. Their details were checked and assistance requested. Further checks were completed and the vehicle was seized for no insurance.

·        Funding granted from NHDC for 100 lock shrouds for use in combating tack thefts/farming burglaries in the rural areas.
