Whist icy conditions persist, can
I please remind you how difficult it is for many elderly people to get out and
about in this weather, particularly those who rely on public transport or
usually walk to the shops. Since footpaths are icy, many may feel
understandably anxious about walking even as far as the bus stop.
Relatives may be unable to reach
family members, because of road conditions etc. and this can be a big worry for
them as they might be unable to help. If you do have elderly persons
within your watch area, you might like to consider politely asking them if they
need any help and if you are going to the supermarket yourself, perhaps you
could either offer them a lift or ask them if they’d like to give you a
shopping list of items they need which you could pick up for them whilst you’re
there.
EIGHT people were
arrested in Royston yesterday (Monday) during police raids which uncovered
two cannabis factories, a quantity of drugs, more than £10,000 in cash, and
suspected stolen goods.
Thirty police officers, including Royston Safer Neighbourhoods Team and dog
units took part in the raids to combat drugs supply and criminal activity
in the town.
The addresses targeted were in Willowside
Way, Yeats Close, Swinburne Close, Chiltern Road, Lindsay Close and Layston
Park. The cannabis factories were found in Yeats Close and Swinburne Close.
The arrested people are all from Royston and have all been bailed until
February 2, 14 and 16th, 2011.
A 20 year old man, a 26 year old man, a 27 year old man and a 16 year old boy
were all arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm, namely a taser.
A 49 year old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property and
possessing a Class B drug, namely cannabis.
A 25 year old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.
A 21 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs,
namely cocaine, with intent to supply and possessing stolen property.
A 21 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.
