Beware a New Scam

The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

Shot Gun Thefts?

Last year we suffered a number of thefts of shot guns that had been left in cars. The normal situation is that members of a shooting party go into a local pub for a drink after the shoot and leave their guns in their motor vehicles, when they come out they find that their car has been broken into and the weapon stolen.

To leave a firearm unattended in a motor vehicle is no longer acceptable. If you do and it gets stolen you may BE SUBJECT OF A REVOCATION OF YOUR CERTIFICATE and loose your shotgun/firearms licence.

From SGT Pete Frost

Criminal Damage and Anti Social Behaviour continue to raise some concern in the town.  We will endeavour to work tirelessly with the community addressing these issues and to bring those causing a disturbance in the neighbourhood to justice.

My colleagues and I have worked hard over recent months to reduce this problem and this year during the Halloween period we reduced crime by two thirds and Anti Social Behaviour by a quarter.  This is due to the hard work of my Officers and their obvious presence on the streets.

We will continue to conduct Anti-Social Behaviour patrols in Royston Town and work with the community.  PCSO Alanna ROBINSON recently completed a project with the local schools and the children have designed posters that will be distributed in the town to help get the message across about the upset that this anti-social behaviour causes.

With Christmas fast approaching it is useful to remind everyone whilst we are out shopping that we ensure our vehicles are locked and secure, with all valuables and shopping out of sight.  Also we should ensure that our homes are kept secure.  Remember to leave a light on if you are leaving your house in the hours of darkness and keep presents and valuables out of sight.

Royston Police Station is open every day for enquires at the Front Counter and Police Officers work from the Station twenty four hours a day patrolling Royston Town and Royston And Baldock Rural.

Royston remains a low crime area and by working together we can ensure that it remains that way.

If any of you want to contact me, please do so on 01438 757926. Or via e-mail at: peter.frost@herts.pnn.police.uk
