December 2006 |
Covering
Arbury, Ermine, Weston & Sandon Wards.
There will be a Neighbour Hood Watch meeting at Kelshall Village hall at 8pm on Thursday 7th December 2006 for all members of G4D; - Barkway, Barley, Reed, Nuthampstead, Newsells, Kelshall & Therfield. If you think that you may wish to join NHW please come along, all are welcome.
HERTFORDSHIRE Constabulary is continuing its crime
prevention messages in the run up to Christmas by reminding people of the
importance of home security over the festive period.
It may sound harsh but I would suggest people do not leave presents – especially expensive presents – under the tree where they can be seen from a window. Every year we hear saddening reports of families who have had all their presents stolen. The harder you make it for thieves and the less opportunities you give them, the safer you will be.
As well as
keeping presents out of sight, the wrappers and boxes from expensive items should
be hidden from view when they are put out for the dustmen. Try not to leave
these boxes next to your dustbin or in your garden. The boxes often indicate
the contents of the house and may attract thieves looking for potential
victims. Break them down and place them in a bin liner or take them to your
local household waste site yourself.
This week
Cambridgeshire has been the target of a number of distraction Burglaries,
please be on your guard and look out for the elderly. The main phrase these hooligans
are using is "we are from the waterboard.” I would like to take this time to point out that if you receive a
bogus
Caller at
your door and you suspect they are not whom they say, then
Please report
the incident straight away as the next victim may not be so alert. I do stress
the word straight away. We are still receiving reports, that members of the
public are letting people into their
Homes without verifying their true
identity. Do not be fooled by Appearances. As the old saying says “ appearances can be deceptive.”
These people are con artists and they achieve their results by being Plausible. Please
try and note their description and the guise they are using to gain entry. If
you see them with a car as I have said so often try and obtain the registration
number, as this would be a big plus in helping us. Remember now that the dark
nights are here you should bear the following in Mind! When going out to work
in the morning try and leave a light on,
Preferably on
a timer. Thieves would think twice about entering a house, Which may be
occupied or gives the appearance obeying so.

Sometime during the evening of Thursday 2nd November, a burglary occurred at a residential address in Dixies Close, Ashwell. The thieves gained entry to the property by removing the letter box cover and reaching through to operate the lock on the front door. Just before midnight on Saturday 18th November, a 15-year-old male was walking home along Station Road in Ashwell, was approached by another male who asked him for some money. The victim told the male that he did not have any and continued on his journey home. The male then ran after the victim and attempted to put his hand into the victims pockets, at this point a slight altercation has occurred and both the victim and the offender fell to the floor before the victim managed to run away. The offender is described as white, medium build, wearing a light blue hooded top, blue jeans and black gloves. (Crime no. G4/06/1227).
At 6pm on Sunday 19th November, Police attended a report of a road traffic collision in Hinxworth Road, Ashwell. On their arrival it was established that the driver of one of the vehicles involved had already left the scene having left his details and it was strongly suspected that the driver was intoxicated. Police Officers attended the other party’s address where, following a breath test, the male was arrested for driving whilst over the legal alcohol limit. (Crime no. G4/06/1229).

Between Sunday 26th and Tuesday 28th November, two burglaries occurred in Hoops Lane, Therfield. On both occasions a shed in the vicinity was broken into and one of the properties also had their garage broken into. Each of the properties had padlocks, which were forced in order to gain entry. A dartboard was stolen from one of the sheds but nothing appears to have been taken from the other shed or garage. (Crime no’s G4/06/1269 & G4/06/1277). During the same time period, a shed was broken into in Church End, Barley. On this occasion a mans blue racing bike was stolen. (Crime no. G4/06/1276).

POLICE officers and Trading Standards officials visited four licensed premises
in Hitchin last Friday (November 24) to test their procedures on underage
drinkers.
The Radcliffe Arms, Club 85, The Phoenix and The Red Hart were all visited by
two young people watched by plain clothed police officers and a Trading
Standards officer. All four premises refused entry to the young people.
HERTFORDSHIRE Constabulary’s Serious and Organised Crime Group arrested eight
people on November 21st as part of an ongoing major investigation into an
organised criminal enterprise, which is believed to be staging motor vehicle
accidents and conspiring to defraud insurance companies.
The nine-month long investigation, assisted by investigators from the Insurance
Fraud Bureau, culminated in warrants being executed at a total of seven
addresses in Watford, Hatfield, Isleworth and Birmingham.
The investigation, code named Operation Mysterious, involved a specialist team
of detectives within Hertfordshire Police and began following information
received about a major insurance scam operating in the south of the county.
Substantial financial sums are thought to have been accumulated by the people
involved in the scam, who are suspected of making false insurance claims around
vehicle accidents.
Detective Chief Inspector Jon Chapman said: “We are very pleased with the
arrests, which were effected following a nine month long ongoing investigation,
working in partnership with the Insurance Fraud Bureau. We take insurance fraud
very seriously and will continue to work to tackle serious and organised
crime.”
John Beadle, Chairman of the Insurance Fraud Bureau said: “The success of this
operation sends a very clear message to those criminals who are targeting
innocent motorists - we know who you are and we are coming after you.
“The IFB has been working closely with Hertfordshire Police on this
investigation and these arrests are testimony to the power of a collaborative
partnership between Police and Insurers. Can I urge anyone with information on
insurance fraud or who fears they may have been a victim of a staged accident
to call our free confidential hotline on 0800 328 2550.”
Anyone with information about related crimes should contact Hertfordshire
Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
EIGHTEEN people have been arrested at addresses in Baldock, Letchworth,
Royston, Hitchin, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire following an intelligence led
operation aimed at disrupting class A drugs markets.
Fourteen warrants were executed yesterday (November 8) under the Misuse of
Drugs Act following months of intelligence and evidence gathering by officers
across the Constabulary’s Eastern Area.
Detective Chief Inspector Jerry Tattersall, who co-ordinated the operation
said: “Today’s warrants are the culmination of months of hard work by officers.
These arrests show the Area’s commitment to the crack down on drug related
crime in the county. The warrants were carried out as a result of information
gathered over a period of time and send out a clear message to anyone suspected
of being involved in Class A drugs supply and their associates: that we will
come and find you.”
Geoff Camp, Community Inspector for Letchworth, Baldock and Royston said: “The
North Herts area is one of the safest in the country and the operation today is
a step towards making it even safer.
“Much of the information we receive is from our communities and I would like to
thank everyone who has contacted police over previous months. All of the
information received from the public is followed up, however callers may not
see immediate visible police action as a result of the information they pass
on. Although the information may be extremely helpful, police need to use other
sources to complete the picture before they can take positive action like
today’s operation.”
John Campbell, Chief Executive of North Hertfordshire District Council, said,
“Our recent district wide survey of residents showed that they attach great
importance to our strategic objective of creating safer communities. The
Council is very encouraged by the action of the police in arresting these
individuals, and positive action like this should reassure residents. I hope it
will significantly reduce criminal activity in North Herts.”
Police need the public’s help in keeping crack and other class A drugs out of
Hertfordshire. If anyone has any information about where drug dealing is taking
place or who is involved in class A drug supply or use, they are urged to
contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 0845 33 00 222. All calls are treated in
the strictest confidence and you do not have to give your name. Alternatively
ring Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
You can now also pass on information securely online. Visit www.herts.police.uk
